Moving in Cosmic Rhythm with Shiva Rea on the Sacred Lands of Angkor

Prana Flow Yoga Equinox Retreat in the energy field of Angkor Wat

16-22 March, 2026 (6 Nights)

16 – 22 March 2026

Why This Moment Matters

For 900 years, Angkor Wat has stood as more than architecture. Built to mirror the cosmos - its five towers representing Mount Meru, center of the universe - the temple was designed as a bridge between earth and sky.

The Khmer builders understood something modern science is only beginning to measure: certain places on Earth hold concentrated energetic fields. Angkor Wat is one of the strongest.

And twice each year, during the equinoxes, when day and night achieve perfect balance, the sun rises in direct alignment with the temple's central tower. Ancient priests planned ceremonies around this moment. Modern practitioners travel thousands of miles to be present for it.

This is one of those moments.

What Happens When You're Here

Deepening Your Practice and Personal Transformation

Before dawn on March 20th, you'll stand before Angkor Wat as the sky shifts from black to deep blue. Thousands gather for sunrise every day. But on the equinox, something shifts. The light feels different. The air feels different.

As the sun crests the horizon in perfect alignment with the temple's central spire, Shiva Rea will guide you through a 108-sun salutation ceremony - an ancient practice of moving meditation designed to align your body with cosmic rhythms.

Three days earlier, on the new moon (March 19th), you'll journey to Kbal Spean - the "River of a Thousand Lingas." Here, sacred carvings rest beneath flowing water. You'll participate in a waterfall purification ritual, preparing your energy body for the equinox work ahead.

Between these anchor moments, you'll move through:

  • Chakra Prana Flow sequences: Designed to balance and activate your energy centers, cultivating vitality and inner peace.
  • Techniques for integrating sound healing: Utilizing ancient instruments and vocalizations to attune to Nada Yoga and promote cellular regeneration.
  • The energetic significance of Angkor Wat: Understanding how to tap into its powerful healing vibrations.
  • Practices for energetic alignment: Connecting your body, mind, and spirit with the cosmic rhythms.

This isn't a yoga retreat that happens to be at Angkor Wat.
This is an Angkor Wat pilgrimage that uses yoga as the vehicle.

Shiva Rea, M.A.

Shiva Rea brings ancient yoga wisdom alive for modern practitioners through creative, transformative practices. A global teacher for 25 years, she's renowned for her synthesis of Vinyasa Flow, guiding thousands of students and teachers to integrate yoga as a way of life.

For Shiva, movement is life. Her studies span the Krishnamacharya lineage, kalarippayat, world dance, yogic arts, and somatic movement, which she weaves into her embodied approach to yoga. She integrates vinyasa, ayurveda, and tantra through immersive courses, workshops, and retreats.

A pioneer in reviving the art of namaskar (salutations), Shiva teaches alignment in flow, energetic attunement, mandala sequencing, and rasa prana vinyasa, while honoring "sahaja," the spontaneous creative movement at yoga's heart.

Yoga session on Rock Lookout
Our first stop is a yoga session on a serene natural platform overlooking a vast jungle valley, the perfect place to breathe deeply, stretch, and harmonize body and spirit amidst the stillness of nature.

Carved Buddha of Phnom Kulen Mountain
We then journey to the sacred heights of Phnom Kulen Mountain, the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire and home to the magnificent Reclining Buddha statue carved into the mountain’s summit. Here, amidst incense and prayer flags, we will make offerings and prayers and connect with the timeless serenity of the Buddha and the powerful spiritual essence that flows through this sacred mountain.

Kulen Mountain Waterfall
We will then descend into the valley to experience the natural splendor of Phnom Kulen Waterfall, one of Cambodia’s most beloved sacred sites, considered highly potent for purification, energetic renewal, and chakra activation. Hidden within the lush jungle, the cascading waters flow over ancient sandstone, creating shimmering pools perfect for a refreshing dip. Surrounded by tropical forest and local pilgrims, this sacred waterfall embodies the life-giving energy of the land, a place to cleanse, renew, and feel deeply connected to the spirit of nature and the heart of Khmer culture.

River Bed of 1000 Carved Lingams
We will then venture to the River of a Thousand Lingams, a sacred site where the riverbed itself is intricately carved with countless stone lingams and divine figures dating back to the 11th century. These ancient carvings were created to sanctify the flowing waters, symbolizing the life force of Shiva and the fertility of the land. As the clear waters ripple over the sacred stones, the site radiates a profound sense of peace and reverence, a timeless reminder of the deep spiritual connection between nature, devotion, and creation.

Sunset over Valley
As our day’s journey draws to a close, we gather to watch the sun set over the vast Siem Reap Valley, where golden light spills across the forests and distant temple spires. From this elevated vantage point, the landscape glows with a quiet majesty, a perfect moment of reflection and gratitude. Here, bathed in the soft hues of dusk, we honour the sacred land that has guided our path and carry its timeless stillness and wisdom within us as we return to the world beyond.

This day trip will leave you primed for an evening of integrative community sharing and deep rest.
